Jawaharlal Nehru was born into a good family. He was born on 14 November 1889. His father Motilal Nehru was a famous advocate of Allahabad.  At the age of 15th, he went to England for higher education.He studied at Cambridge University and returned to India.He was impressed with Mahatma Gandhi, under his leadership he started working. When India became independent in 1947, He was made the Prime Minister of India.They had a special love for children. The children used to call them affectionately called 'chacha,' even today Jawaharlal Nehru Birthday is celebrated as Children's Day.This great person died on May 27, 1964. He was an active supporter of world peace.We always remember him with great pride.

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was born in Allahabad on 14th November 1889. He was the only son of Pandit  Motilal Nehru, a famous advocate, and a great national leader. Jawaharlal was sent to England for his studies at an early age. He returned from England after becoming a barrister. But he never went into Politics. He began to take part in the national movement for making India, independent. He became the follower of Mahatma Gandhi and went to jail again and again. He was married to Kamla Devi at Delhi and had a daughter Indira, who is our ex-Prime Minister, Smt. Indira Gandhi.Jawaharlal became one of the great national leaders of India and the world. When India became at last free in 1947, he becomes her first Prime Minister. He worked day and night for seventeen years for the uplift of India and to bring about peace in the World. He died in Delhi on 27th May 1964. Besides being a great national leader, he was also a great writer. His books like 'Discovery of India' and Letters from a Father to his Daughter' have been translated into many languages and are read with interest all over the World. He was also very popular among children. He was known as 'Chacha Nehru.' His birthday is observed as ‘Children's Day', in India.
